Hyderabad, Feb 16 (UNI) The Telangana Cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao, held at Pragathi Bhavan, CMs camp office here on Sunday night decided to pass a resolution against the controversial Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) in the state Assembly.
Congress-ruled Rajasthan, Punjab, Chhattisgarh and Puducherry and Kerala and West Bengal have already passed Assembly resolutions against the Act.
In the eight hour long marathon meeting, the cabinet appealed to the Union government not to discriminate on the basis of religion for according Indian Citizenship.
It requested that all religions must be treated as equal before the law.
Cabinet further requested the Central government to take measures to abrogate the Citizenship (Amendment) Act, 2019 which will lead to discriminate on the basis of religion while granting citizenship and thereby jeopardizing secularism envisaged in the constitution.
