Teachers urge Bihar Governor to retain existing University structure

Patna, July 19 (UNI) A group of elected teacher representatives and former office-bearers of the Delhi University Teacher's Association (DUTA) has submitted a memorandum to Bihar Governor and Chancellor of State Universities, Lieutenant General (Retd.) Syed Ata Hasnain, urging him to intervene against the proposed restructuring of undergraduate constituent colleges in Bihar.
DUTA Secretary Bimalendu Teerathankar and former member DU Executive Council and former Joint Secretary DUTA Rajesh K Jha on Sunday said that the recent media reports indicating that the Bihar government is considering legislation to separate undergraduate constituent colleges from state universities and place them under a newly created Higher Education Department are matter of grave concern and the governor has been requested through the memorandum for his immediate intervention in the interest of the higher education in Bihar.
While acknowledging that the proposal is still under consideration, the teachers argued that the move would have far-reaching implications for the future of higher education in Bihar.

Patna, Aug 16 (UNI) BJP MP and former union minister Ravi Shankar Prasad today launched a sharp political attack on senior Congress leader and former union Home Minister P. Chidambaram, accusing him of displaying an "irresponsible mindset" by saying, "Modi ji, I am also mentally a Naxal."
Prasad told news persons here that Chidambaram's remark was highly objectionable, particularly because he had himself served as the country's Home Minister and was also a senior Supreme Court lawyer and Rajya Sabha member.
