Teacher could play a vital role in shaping a student as a good citizen

Puducherry, May 27(UNI):Asserting that human rights education should be taught from schools, Amnesty International award winner Henri Tiphagne today said the teachers have a pivotal vital role to play in imparting it to the students so as to shape them as better citizens of the future.
Speaking at the orientation-programme to the Principals and Headmasters of various educational institutions in the region here today, Tiphagne, a lawyer by profession said the human rights education could inculcate in a student’s mind the need to have a society free of prejudices, untouchability and respect for rights of fellow citizens of the country.
Citing the incident of Shankar’s murder at Udumalaipettai (a dalit married a vanniyar girl), Mr Tiphage said it will also help prevent the violence in the name of caste and will create awareness about the rights of all sections of people of the society.Stating that caste has started creeping into all walks of life, the lawyer said, human rights education in schools is an anti-dote to this and only teachers can bring about a change in society by imparting them to the students.
