Tea industry needs to adopt a multi-faceted approach to address climate change challenges: Nayantara

Kolkata, March 20 (UNI) Indian Tea Association Chairperson Nayantara Palchoudhuri on Monday said the tea industry needs to adopt a multi-faceted approach combining both mitigation and adaptation measures to address the challenges posed by climate change.
Speaking at a Webinar on “Climate Change Challenges : Mitigation and Adaptation Measures for Tea Sector”, organised under the aegis of the Asia Tea Alliance - a forum of leading Tea Associations of tea-producing countries in Asia, Palchoudhuri stated that one of the biggest fallouts of climate change has been increased pest infestations, and pesticide residue management has become a major challenge.
She emphasised the climate change challenges confronting the tea sector globally which are threatening the long-term viability of the tea sector and directly impacting tea production and quality resulting in lower yields and an increase in the cost of production.
