Kolkata, Oct 20 (UNI) To sustain the two-way dialogue between exporters and importers and undertake effective promotional activities in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic, Tea Board India has been organising Virtual B2B Meets regularly with strategic export markets as well as
domestic markets having a high potential of increasing tea consumption.
A Virtual B2B Meet was organised by Tea Board India in collaboration with Embassy of India, Moscow recently for enhanced marketing of the Indian Tea sector in Russia.
The main objectives of this B2B the meet was to explore ways and means of increasing Indian tea exports to Russia, to explore avenues of suitable collaboration with major Supermarket retailers, to facilitate a steady supply of Indian teas (bulk as well as packaged) and preserving dedicated shelf space for display of Indian tea brands, and for giving thrust on value-added tea exports in addition to exports in bulk form.
Speaking at the meeting, D. B. Venkatesh Varma, Ambassador of India, Embassy of India,
Russian Federation, urged exporters to establish joint ventures with Russian companies for high quality packaging of Indian teas.
P.K. Sahoo, Deputy Chairman, Tea Board India, said there is a need to tie-up with supermarkets, retail chains and form Joint Ventures with Russian companies to increase India’s market share.
The meeting saw the presence of major importers, officials of Embassy of India, Moscow,
representatives from tea associations in India such as ITA, ITEA, ITEA, UPASI & SITEA, and the large number of Indian tea exporters.
About 100 stakeholders from both sides participated in the Virtual Meet.
For the UAE market, a Virtual B2B Meet was organized by Tea Board India in collaboration with
Consulate General of India, Dubai, on 28th September 2020 to explore ways and
means of enhancing Indian tea exports to the UAE.
UAE plays a very crucial role in the international tea trade due to its unique geographic location and
facilities of excellent logistic and storage services.
In this backdrop, Dr Aman Puri, Consul General of India, Consulate General of India, Dubai, stated that India offers a wide range of teas to suit the palate of every individual, therefore Indian tea is well-positioned to cater to this diverse demand.
He further stated that UAE is a very important re-export hub and is critical for Indian tea exports.
As regards the domestic market, a Virtual Tea Conclave comprising of digital conferences, an exhibition of different varieties of tea & products related to the tea industry as well as buyer-seller meets were organized by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) in association with Tea Board India and the Assam government on October 07, 2020.
The Tea Conclave was virtually inaugurated by Chandra Mohan Patowary, Minister of Transport, Industry & Commerce, Parliamentary Affairs and SEED, Government of Assam in the presence of Dr K K Dwivedi, Commissioner & Secretary to the Industries & Commerce Department of Assam Government.
The prominent speakers at the inaugural session included P.K. Sahoo, Deputy Chairman, Tea Board India, Sanjio Kumar, Executive Director, Tea Board India and others.
The virtual Tea Conclave had virtual stalls similar to regular exhibitions where producers & manufacturers were able to display their products in the stalls and buyers and tea connoisseurs visited the stalls virtually.
There were also buyer-seller meets, both B2B and B2C.
