Tata Group eyes USD 1 billion shipbuilding project in Kerala

Thiruvananthapuram, July 15 (UNI) The Tata Group has proposed to invest more than USD 1 billion (approximately ₹10,000 crore) in setting up a world-class shipbuilding facility in Kerala, in what could become one of the largest industrial investments in the state's maritime sector.
Chief Minister V. D. Satheesan said the Tata Group has formally expressed interest in establishing the shipyard in Kerala and has sought the state government's approval for the project. The proposal is currently under consideration, and the government is expected to take a decision within a month.
The Chief Minister said the state is willing to provide suitable land for the proposed facility, which is expected to emerge as a major shipbuilding and ship repair hub, creating thousands of direct and indirect employment opportunities while strengthening Kerala's position in India's maritime industry.

Sudarsan Reddy on Tuesday said that 2,64,87,214 Enumeration Forms, accounting for 78.30 per cent of the total electors in the State, had been digitised upon completion of the Enumeration Phase under the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.
