TAPM: Anupam Kher appeals to authorities to stop  violence during film's screening

New Delhi, Jan 12 (UNI) Bollywood actor Anupam Kher on Saturday appealed to the authorities to stop a section of people who are indulging in acts of violence and hooliganism, during the screening of his film 'The Accidental Prime Minister'.

Sharing a video on his Twitter account, he wrote,'An appeal to the authorities to stop a section of people who are indulging in acts of violence and hooliganism during the screening of our film #TheAccidentalPrimeMinister. Also a call out to other section of people who believe in selective outrage towards #FreedomOfExpression."

In the video, Mr Kher said,'My dear friends, yesterday in Kolkata and a few other theatres across the country, some special people came during the screening of our film, The Accidental Prime Minister. They tore the screen and threatened the audience seated in the auditorium, asking them to leave immediately.'

"I am extremely disappointed by this. I request the government officials and police to stop this kind of behaviour and not allow these kind of things to happen," he said.

The actor also urged the champions of free speech to speak up against this kind of hooliganism.

"A message for those people who feel scared in this country. Those who are champions of freedom of expression, please raise your voice against this kind of behaviour. It is very important. Thank you," he added.

On Friday, the screening of Anupam Kher starrer 'The Accidental Prime Minister' at multiplexes in Kolkata was interrupted by agitators carrying Congress flags. The protesters forced vandalised the theatres and threatened the audience to leave immediately.

'The Accidental Prime Minister' also features Akshaye Khanna, Suzanne Bernert, Vipin Sharma, Arjun Mathur and Aahana Kumra in the key roles.

The film raked in Rs 4.50 crore on its first day.

'The Accidental Prime Minister' is a biographical film directed by Vijay Ratnakar Gutte and written by Mayank Tewari, based on the 2014 memoir of the same name by Sanjaya Baru.

It stars Anupam Kher as Manmohan Singh, the economist and politician who served as the Prime Minister of India from 2004 to 2014 under the UPA.
