Tanzanian woman assault row: MHA seeks report, Karnataka govt orders probe

Bengaluru/New Delhi, Feb 4 (UNI) The Union Home Ministry has sought a report from the Karnataka Government in the alleged attack and parading naked of a 21-year old Tanzanian woman even as the incident, being projected as a 'racial assault,' evoked sharp reactions from various quarters including the Embassy of that country and the National Commission for Women.
The Karnataka Government has ordered a high-level probe into the incident, arresting five accused, reports from the state capital Bengaluru said.
The Tanzanian woman was allegedly beaten up and stripped by a mob on Sunday night in a case of "mistaken identity" after a woman was mowed by a car being driven by another Sudanese student in a drunken state on Bannerghatta road in the city. The Sudanese student tried to drive away, when the people chased his vehicle and assaulted him, his car was torched.The mob also attacked another three foreign students who were there at the time of incident.
