Tanzanian student assault case: NHRC issues notice to K'taka govt

New Delhi, Feb 5(UNI) Taking the suo-motu cognisance of media reports over alleged assault of a Tanzanian student in Bengaluru, the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) today issued notice to the Karnataka government seeking reply on the matter returnable within two weeks.
"If the contents of the (media) report are true, it would amount to a serious violation of human rights including racism," the Commission said in the notice.
The 21-year-old Tanzanian woman student was allegedly beaten up and stripped by a mob in a case of "mistaken identity" after a woman was mowed down by a car on Sunday night.
