Tammineni Sitaram elected as Speaker of AP Assembly

Amaravati, Jun 13 (UNI) Mr Tammineni Sitaram was unanimously elected as Speaker of Andhra Pradesh Assembly on Thursday.
As soon as the proceedings began this morning, Protem Speaker S China Venkata Appala Naidu announced that Mr Tammineni Sitaram was elected Speaker of Assembly 'unopposed'.
Mr.Sitaram submitted his nomination papers to Assembly Secretary P Balakrishnamacharyulu and his nomination was supported by Ministers and MLAs including Botcha Satyanarayana, Peddireddy Ramachandra Reddy, Buggana Rajendranath and Chief Whip G Srikanth.
Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy hugged the Speaker elect and took him to the chair on the podium while Minister B Rajendranath accompanied him.
TDP MLA K Atchannaidu also went the podium and congratulated the Speaker.
Mr Sitaram is a six-time MLA from Amudalavalasa in Srikakulam district.
Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Minister while congratulating the new Speaker hoped that values will be taken into account while running the house.
He said that AP Assembly should be an ideal platform to all other states by following Parliamentary traditions. “During the last Assembly in the erstwhile TDP government, the Opposition YSRCP was not given much time to speak and the same should not recur now” Mr Reddy said and asked the Speaker to disqualify MLAs, if they defected the parties.
Congratulating the Speaker, Leader of the Opposition and former chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu said that he did not want to make any controversial statement and hoped that the Assembly session would be held in a smooth way.
Ministers Peddireddy Ramachandra Reddy, Botcha Satyanarayana, Pamula Pushpa Srivani, Chief Whip G Srikanth Reddy and TDP MLA K Atchennaidu and Karanam Balaram were among those who congratulated the newly elected Speaker.
