T-Works to be operational by Dec 2018: Minister

Hyderabad, Dec 5 (UNI) Telangana Industry Minister K T Rama Rao on Tuesday said that the T-Works, an incubator especially for hardware, will be operational by December 2018.
In his inaugural address at the two-day 17th India Design Summit, organized by Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) alongwith the National Institute of Design and Government of Telangana held at HICC here,
Mr Rao said said T-Works one of the worlds largest Maker Spaces coming up in 2.5 square feet arear about 3 kms from Hi-Tech city by the same time next year.
This space would allow anyone with an idea to collaborate and create new offerings. Already three companies were tied with T-Works and many more coming into it.
He said that Industry 4.0 was India’s opportunity to lead the world and added that today, collaboration and open sourcing was making an unprecedented opportunity available for Hardware Entrepreneurship as it did for software based entrepreneurship a few years back.
Mr Rao emphasized that good design helps elevate our quality of life and physical environment, bringing about tangible economic and financial dividends in attracting talents and businesses and fostering creativity and hence it is of critical importance for business and society. He expressed that a maturing and growing India requires, without a doubt, excellence in design, as it was not any more a desirable factor, but an essential factor.
Dr Naushad Forbes, Immediate Past President of CII, and Chairman of India Design Council talked about the need to scale the impact of design.
He quoted that India produces hardly about 5000 designers every year whereas South Korea with just 3 per cent of India’s population produces around 25000 designers per year.
Dr Forbes expressed that design must be larger as an enterprise and should get more prominence than it gets now.
