Syed Refaat Ahmed appointed new Bangladesh Chief Justice

Dhaka, Aug 11 (UNI) Syed Refaat Ahmed has been appointed the 25th chief justice of Bangladesh hours after Justice Obaidul Hassan stepped down from the post following student-led protests at the Supreme Court premises.
Hassan resigned on Saturday afternoon after anAnti Discrimination student movement protest leader issued an ultimatum demanding Hassan put in his papers.
Later in the day, Bangladesh President Mohammed Shahabuddin named Justice Syed Refaat Ahmed to the country's top judicial post, according to a notification from the Law Ministry, reported Daily Star.
Refaat Ahmed's father Syed Ishtiyaq Ahmed was a former attorney general of Bangladesh. UNI AT SY SSP
