Syed Modi International Grand Prix Badminton from Jan 24

Lucknow, Jan 21(UNI) The Ninth edition of Syed Modi International Grand Prix Gold Badminton championship would be held here at the Babu Banarasi Das Badminton Academy from January 24. More than 300 international and national shuttlers would be seen in action in their six days tourney with a prize money of dollar 120000. Uttar Pradesh governor Ram Naik will inaugurate the second badminton international of the year, at a glittering function here on January 24, while the finals would be played on January 29. Disclosing the details of the tourney, Uttar Pradesh Badminton Association (UPBA) secretary Arun Kakkar said here today that like previous year, there would be no Chinese, Japanese or Korean players this time too. However, Olympics Silver medalist P V Sindhu has been ranked top seed in the women singles ahead of Saina Nehwal in this tourney which will also witness horde of Malaysian, Thailand, Denmark Indonesian shuttlers. Prominent players who would be participating in the international badminton tourney are World ranked 11 Saensomboonsum Tanongsak( Thailand), Ranked 14- Vittinghus Hans Kristian (Denmark), World ranked -4 in men's doubles Matias Boe and Carsten Mogensen ( Denmark) and Hendra Satiawan and Boon Heong Tan ( Malaysia). Indian challenge would be led by Sindhu and Saina in the women section while Kadambi Srikant, Ajay Jayram, P V Kashyap will be in the men's category. UNI MB NC SHK 1752
