Hubballi, Apr 3 (UNI) The SWR is taking all necessary steps to face the threat posed by the Novel Coronavirus pandemic.
With the active involvement of officers and staff, SWR is manufacturing essential medical items like Masks and Sanitizers.
In a statement issued here on Friday, it said this is being done, along with discharging professional responsibility of transporting essentials. As a measure of social responsibility, providing food at Benglauru, Hubballi and Mysuru is being done daily. Providing ration kits to the needy people has been done in all three divisions, it added.
Masks and surgical items are being prepared in-house by Railway in the wake of COVID-19. Due to the increase in demand for essential medical commodities, the SWR has taken to in-house production of sanitizers and making masks in-house, to deal with the crisis at hand, during the lockdown.
These two essentials in current scenario are not available in large quantities in market.
The laboratories in Railway workshops, which cater to locomotive maintenance requirements such as lubricant analysis and chemical analysis, have initiated the process of manufacturing hand sanitizers. The sanitizers are being prepared with the composition prescribed by the WHO of surgical spirit, aloevera gel, glycerol and scent.
At the stitching and furbishing section of the workshops, face masks are being made. These masks are being made using cotton cloth with bands for adjustments.
So far, as on April 3, the SWR has manufactured 7,295 masks and prepared 1,200 liters of Sanitizer for use and distribution.
In the first phase, they are being supplied to the Medical Department within the Railways and frontline staff, who are working relentlessly to ensure movement of goods trains.
