SWR creates rake of general 2nd class coaches

Hubballi, Oct 25 (UNI) In what can be described as an innovative use of the general passenger coaches, for the first time, the Hubballi Division of the South Western Railway (SWR) converted a Rake (Complete Train) consisting of general second class coaches as a Festival Season Parcel Train to carry a chargeable weight of ten tonnes of goods per wagon from Vasco – Da- Gama to Kalameshwar in Nagpur Division, according to a press release issued by the SWR here on Sunday.
The press release further stated that the innovative step to convert a passenger train into a Festival Season Parcel Rake was taken to meet the increasing demand for transportation of goods as per the recent notification of the railway board giving the go ahead to carry out such actions.
The train consisting of 15 second class coaches and two second class luggage-cum-break vans left Vasco da Gama at 07:00 hrs this morning and will reach Kalameshwar tomorrow at 13.40 hrs. The Special Train is carrying a load of 166 tonnes of Nestle food items, earning railways a revenue of Rupees six lakhs, it said.
