SWR connecting people and places, is partner in country's march towards progress and prosperity: GM

Hubballi, 26 Jan (UNI) The General Manager of the South Western Railway (SWR), Mr AK Singh said here today that the Indian Railways bridges distances connects people and places and is a partner in the Nation’s march towards progress and prosperity.
Speaking after Unfurling the National Flag to mark the Republic Day Celebrations at the Railway Sports Grounds here, Mr Singh stated that the Hubballi headquartered SWR, as one of the popular public transport service provider, plays a significant role in the Socio-economic development of the region it serves.
Talking about the achievements of the SWR during the last year, Mr Singh said that during the last year, SWR had operated 268 Shramik specials in the most adverse circumstances and ferried 3.91 Lakh people to their home states, to reunite with their families. 279 Parcel trains operated carrying 56,000 Tonnes of essentials. Recently four trains (rakes) of maize and two rakes of automobiles were dispatched for export to Bangladesh and Nepal. SWR was the first Zone in Indian Railways to start intra state passenger trains after lockdown, based on the advice of Govt. of Karnataka. 2.56 lakh meals were distributed in lockdown, in coordination with IRCTC.
