New Delhi, Dec 9 (UNI) Yogendra Yadav-led Swaraj India Party on Sunday declared `iCan19-Indian Citizens Action for Nation 2019’ for making political intervention in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections under the agenda, ``Hindu na musalman, Bas Kisan-Naujawan’.
"The 2019 election will not be an ordinary election for in many ways it can shape the future of the country. Therefore we decided that we will put in all our energies for providing a platform in inviting ordinary citizens to engage with politics on the basis of issues identified by us ,’’ Mr Yadav told the UNI on the sidelines of a press conference addressed by him.
Mr Yadav said the iCan19 campaign will raise a cadre of volunteers who will propose and select, through a process, a few candidates who are ``true carriers of our agenda’’ and campaign for them to ensure that the next Lok Sabha ``has our voice’’.
Making an appeal to ``fellow Indians’’ in a letter Mr Yadav said that in his tours across the country he had realised that there was a ``reservoir of unique positive energy in the country and it is to harness that energy that the Indian Citizens Action for Nation 2019 had been launched.
He said in recent times the farmers’ movements had put agrarian crisis centre-stage and also youth protests exploding across the country had made them think about the state of education and employment opportunities. ``Farmers and youth seek to join and contribute in the rebuilding of the nation’’ he said.
``The equation for 2019 is clear : If this election is fought on the issues of farmers and youth then no matter who comes to power, the nation moves forward. But if elections are fought on a divisive Hindu-Muslim plank, then whoever wins, India loses. The citizens must act now,’’ he said in his appeal.
In answer to a question he said the recently held Assembly elections will give an idea of how the Hindi belt was likely to behave in 2019 general elections.
