Sushma to meet Pak Foreign Minister in New York: To raise Kartarpursahib corridor issue

New Delhi, Sep 20 (UNI) The ice breaker meet between India and Pakistan vis-a-vis stalled talks is set to happen in New York later this month.
The Government of India on Thursday 'confirmed' that External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj will meet her Pakistani counterpart Shah Mahmood Qureshi in New York on the sidelines of the UN General assembly.
"I can confirm that on the request of the Pakistani side a meeting between External Affairs Minister and Pakistani foreign minister will take place on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly at mutually convenient date and time," MEA spokesman Raveesh Kumar told reporters here.
The last interactions between foreign ministers of both the countries took place in December 2015. The chances of resumption of parleys did not yield expected results as Pathankot attack took place no sooner in January 2016.
He confirmed on the exchange of letters between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and new Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan and also between External Affairs Minister Ms Swaraj and her counterpart Mr Qureshi.
However, Mr Kumar maintained that what will happen on the sidelines on UNGA should not be called a formal talk. "Isey sirf Mulaqat maniye (You may consider it just a meeting only)," he said.
The MEA spokesman, however, said during her meeting with Mr Qureshi the Indian foreign Minister will raise the issue of 'Kartarpursahib Gurudwara corridor".
But he hastened to add other issues have not been decided yet. He also declined to confirm or deny whether matters concerning terrorism will be raised in the meeting.
"Nothing has been finalised....I am not saying it will not be raised," the MEA spokesman said.
