Surrogacy Bill will put stop to exploitation of women due to surrogacy:Vardhan

New Delhi, Nov 19 (UNI) The passage of the Surrogacy (Regulation) Bill will stop the exploitation of surrogate mothers, Health Minister Harshvardhan said on Tuesday.,
Speaking in the Rajya Sabha after moving the Bill , that aims to constitute National Surrogacy Board, State Surrogacy Boards and appoinment of appropriate authorities for regulation of the practice and process of surrogacy, for debate and discussion, Dr vardhan said that in the absence of this Bill, women are getting exploited. He said there are about 3,500 surrogacy clinics in the country in which around 2000 children take birth.
Highlighting the salient features of the Bill, Dr Vardhan said,'It allows ethical surrogacy to married
infertile Indians. This Bill will also prohibit commercial surrogacy.'
The Bill defines surrogacy as a practice where a woman gives birth to a child for an intending couple with the intention to hand over the child after the birth to the intending couple.
