Chandigarh, Jan 19 (UNI) Congress General Secretary Randeep Surjewala, Party's spokesperson Alka Lamba and Punjab Congress chief Navjot Singh Sidhu on Wednesday released a booklet 'Aamdani na hui doguna banaav dard sau guna' based on the issues and challenges facing the farming community.
Addressing a joint press conference at Punjab Congress Bhawan on Wednesday, Surjewala said that the Modi-led central government has completely failed to double the income of farmers as promised by it.
He said the central government had burdened the farmers with additional taxes on farm inputs and given the agrarian community pain due by introducing the farm laws. He said the "anti-farmer" mindset of the BJP stood exposed.
Surjewala said the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) is also hand in glove with the BJP and added that farmers and Dalits involved in farming can survive by boycotting both the BJP and AAP in the elections.
PCC chief Navjot Sidhu said that farmers are facing a quite tough time due to poor policies of the central government. He said the prices of crops increased a lot more when Congress was in power compared to the BJP rule in the Centre. He said Congress will fight upcoming elections to save the farmers of the country.
On the issue of MSP, he said only 5 per cent farmers are getting more than MSP for their crops. Farmers are unable to get MSP on their crops, except for paddy and wheat.
Sidhu said his Punjab Model provides a guarantees to revolutionise Punjab, especially the farm sector.
