New Delhi, Mar 15 (UNI) The Supreme Court on Friday issued a notice to the Election Commission of India (ECI) based on a petition filed by 21 Opposition parties seeking a direction to the Centre that 50 per cent EVM results should be matched and crosschecked with VVPATs during the Lok Sabha elections before the declaration of the results.
The petitioners who had moved the apex court, includes the Opposition leaders -- Chandrababu Naidu, Arvind Kejriwal, Akhilesh Yadav, KC Venugopal, Farooq Abdullah and many more leaders.
A bench of the top court, headed by Chief Justice of India (CJI) Ranjan Gogoi, also asked the ECI to assign one senior officer to assist the court and posted the matter for further hearing to March 25.
