Sumo wrestler Asashoryu says 'nothing works' in figure skating without Russia

Tokyo, Feb 16 (UNI/SPUTNIK) Legendary sumo wrestler Asashoryu, who has reached the sport's highest rank of yokozuna, called for Russia to be reinstated in figure skating, arguing that without it, the sport "would lose its flavor" and become "like sumo without yokozuna."
"And yet, ice dancing and figure skating without Russia would lose their flavor. It's like sumo without yokozuna. Hey, old men from the Olympic Committee! We don't care what you think; it's a wonderful sport. We want to see performances. Honestly, without Russia, nothing works. Sport is a flower that blooms for only a moment in a person's life. And in an instant, it can be plucked. [I say this] as a person who loves sport," the athlete said on Facebook (banned in Russia, owned by Meta Corporation, which is designated as extremist in Russia).
Asashoryu, the 68th yokozuna, is the sporting name of Mongolian wrestler Dolgorsurengiin Dagvadorj, who became the first Mongolian to reach the highest rank in this traditional Japanese sport. He has won 25 top division tournaments over the course of his career, placing him fourth on the all-time list, including all six tournaments in 2005.
