Sukhbir thanks PM Modi for approving Rupnagar-Phagwara road as 4 lane highway

Chandigarh, Jun 30 (UNI) Expressing his gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Finance Minister Arun Jaitley for approving Rupnagar-Phagwara road as 4 lane highway, Punjab Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal today said this major road project would accelerate the infrastructure activities in Doaba area besides lessen the travelling time and traffic congestion leading to Jalandhar and holy city Amritsar.
In a statement here, Mr Badal said Punjab government had submitted this road project along with other major projects to Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari who have forwarded it before the union cabinet. He informed that this 344-A national highway having length of 80 kms would be constructed at a cost of Rs 1444.42 crore which would benefit the towns and surrounding areas connecting to this road.
He said the latest gift from the centre is only a continuation of the new focus that the Union government has come to exercise on the development of Punjab as a premier and advanced state. "The GoI's liberal help in the infrastructure projects would help the Punjab to sustain the hectic pace of development that have already set in the state", he said.
