Sukhbir has lost mental balance: Kangar

Chandigarh, Jan 24 (UNI) Punjab Cabinet Minister Sardar Gurpreet Singh Kangar on Friday asserted that seeing his political end nearing, SAD chief Sukhbir Badal had lost his mental balance and was making unfounded and illogical statements, that too on an religious issue, about which he had done nothing while remaining in power.
For five years, he didn't care about Behbal Kallan, said Mr Kangar, adding that it was ironical that Mr Badal had contested for the Lok Sabha elections from Faridkot constituency.
The Minister said he was extremely saddened by the demise of Surjit Singh and prayed to the almighty to grant eternal peace to the departed soul.
Referring to the SAD chief's desperate attempt through media to take political mileage after Surjit Singh's natural death by making illogical statements against him, Mr Kangar categorically clarified that he had neither ever met any member of the deceased's family personally, nor had he ever talked with them over phone.
The Congress leader further said that Surjit's family had a personal issue with another village resident Majinder Singh. During October last year, the electricity department had conducted surprise raids in the village to check electricity theft, during which Surjit's family had also been fined.
Surjit's family had this feeling that Manjinder Singh had got this raid conducted on their house, said Mr Kangar, adding that he had neither known Manjinder, nor had any relation with him.

According to the Minister, ''Last year in April, I had joined the Revenue Department, after being relieved from the Power department. I have nothing to do with the Revenue department.''

He further said that it's the culprits, who indulge in threatening witnesses, not the applicants.
''Why would I pressurise the witness to backtrack from his statement? We have rather been fighting for justice in this case, even before coming into the government and immediately upon joining the office, we constituted the Justice Ranjit Singh Commission.
''The Commission Report has already been submitted in the Court and the matter is sub-judice,'' he added.

Besides this, action had already been initiated against several police officers found guilty in this case, including Akali leader Mantar Brar, who was currently out on bail and seen with Mr Badal at Surjit Singh's home, Mr Kangar said.
He further said that Mr Badal had never gone to Behbal Kallan to express remorse over the incidents related to the sacrilege of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji and was now indulging in petty political game by making false statements.

The real reason of this desperation is what BJP has done to SAD in Delhi, the Minister said, adding that the SAD had not managed to get out of jolts given by Taksalis and now, BJP had created fresh trouble for them.

Speaking on the occasion, MLA Faridkot Kushaldeep Singh Kiki Dhillon said, ''Mr Badal and his associates seem to have some personal enmity against us that's why he is dragging their names without any reason.

''Everyone knows how much truth Sukhbir speaks and the major proof of this is that Sukhbir had lied about Justice Ranjit Singh Commission at the floor of the Vidhan Sabha, following which the Privilege Committee, upon finding him guilty, had written to the Speaker, to initiate action against him.
''The Vidhan Sabha Speaker has already forwarded it to the Lok Sabha Speaker for action,'' Mr Dhillon added.

Under the leadership of Captain Amarinder Singh Ji, we had gone to Behbal Kallan after the tragic incident and met the affected families.

''Both the Zora Singh Commission and the Ranjit Singh Commission had, in their reports, indicted Mr Badal and other Akali leaders for playing a negative role and we are hopeful that the Court would deliver justice to us.
''Surjit's family had a personal tiff with Manjinder Singh and once, the case of 7/51 had also been registered against Manjinder on Surjit's complaint, who was then released on bail,'' he added.

Surjit Singh had also been provided three policemen for his protection by state government, he pointed out.

People take Sukhbir's statements as part of a comedy show, Dhillon said.
In the end, both leaders challenged Mr Badal to prove his statements, if there was an iota of truth in those allegations.
''We would give up politics, if Sukhbir proves whatever he says else, he should give up politics,'' the leaders said.
