Sukhbir asks Cong govt to direct PSPCL to withdraw ARR seeking hike in power tariff

Chandigarh, Dec 26 (UNI) Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) president Sukhbir Singh Badal on Wednesday condemned the Congress government for forcing the Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) to seek an eight to 14 per cent hike in power tariff for 2019-20 and demanded immediate withdrawal of this anti-people step.
In a statement here, he said the Congress government had failed to provide the required subsidy to PSPCL despite increasing power tariff by nearly 15 to 20 cent in the last two years. “Affecting a further 8 to 14 per cent increase across all categories amounts to cruelty against the common man and is an inhuman step”, he asserted.
Asking Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh to ask PSPCL to withdraw the Annual Revenue Requirement (ARR) demanding the hike which it had submitted to the Punjab State Electricity Regulatory Commission (PSERC), Mr Badal said an inquiry should also be ordered as to why the government had failed to deposit the required subsidy to PSPCL.
