Suicide attempt disrupts Metro services at peak hours

Kolkata, Sep 12 (UNI) City's main arterial mode of transport, Metro railway services, were affected at peak hours this morning after a youth jumped on the tracks when a New Garia-bound up locomotive was entering Belgachia station in north Kolkata.
The unidentified injured youth in his mid 20s jumped on the tracks at around 0924 hours.
The suicide attempt caused suspension of both up and down trains for some time after power connection was switched off while the injured youth was being evacuated from the track.
Eyewitnesses said the youth suddenly flung himself on the track while the locomotive was rushing in.
The driver, however, used emergency brakes before running over the youth on the track.
He has been rushed to nearby RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, official sources said.
