Substantial number increased of illegal migrants leaving India to their homeland following CAA:BSF

Kolkata, Jan 24 (UNI) The illegal migrants, living in the Indian border areas of West Bengal and engaged in various menial jobs, are increasingly moving back to their homeland Bangladesh, a BSF official has confirmed.
BSF Inspector General (South Bengal Frontier) YB Khurania told reporters today that some 268 Bangladeshi nationals have been intercepted in January while trying to cross the Indo-Bangladesh border.
The number of interception cases has increased this month owing to the enactment of the new citizenship amendment by the Union government recently, according to a different source.
“Even though we are not seeing an exodus but there has been a substantial increase in the incidents of people illegally trying to cross the international border and enter Bangladesh,” Khurania was quoted as saying.
“Ninety per cent of them were trying to leave India and enter Bangladesh,” he maintained.
A report said the number of illegal migrants arrested while trying to cross over to Bangladesh from India has increased by more than 50 per cent with 2971 arrested in 2018 as compared to 1800 in 2017.
