Acting on a tip-off, a team of police jawans drawn from Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and Munger, Lakhisarai and Jamui districts were conducting raids to flush out extremists of outlawed CPI (Maoist) from their hideouts when the encounter took place. Sub Divisional Police Officer Lalit Mohan Sharma said here extremists of outlawed CPI (Maoist) opened indiscriminate fire on the police party while it was engaged in the search operation near Bangalidam.
