Quito, Feb 22 (UNI) A high intensity quake, measuring 7.5 on the Richter scale, jolted East Ecuador early Friday, according to the United States Geological Survey (USGS).
The quake, which took place at at 0517 hrs ECT/EST, was epicentred in the rural area located near the central border of Peru and Ecuador, the USGS said in a statement.
The shocks were registered 132 kilometers southeast of Palora, Ecuador.
It took place around 224km (140 miles) east-southeast of Ambato, AccuWeather reports.
The epicenter was monitored at 2.15 degrees south latitude and 76.91 degrees west longitude. The quake struck at a depth of 140 km.
