Stroke surge hits Karnataka, early care saves youngster

Bengaluru , Dec 5 (UNI) A 19-year-old engineering student in Karnataka suffered a life-changing stroke during a routine gym session, leading to locked-in syndrome, a rare condition that left him with near-total paralysis and limited communication through eye movements.
The incident underscores the growing trend of stroke cases among the state’s youth, a condition traditionally linked with older adults.
Experts attribute the rise in strokes among young individuals to poor lifestyle choices, chronic stress, and environmental factors. Strokes in people as young as their late teens are increasingly leading to severe neurological deficits, posing significant challenges physically, emotionally, and cognitively.
