Strike by Naga organisations against activities of Kuki militants affect life

Imphal, July 19 (UNI) The Foothills Naga Coordination Committee (FNCC) has launched an indefinite bandh in Naga-inhabited foothill areas of Manipur from today, protesting the alleged unauthorized construction of roads, the presence of Kuki militants’ camps under the Suspension of Operations (SoO) agreement, and widespread poppy cultivation in the region.
The bandh, which began today, is primarily directed against the construction of the roads by Kuki militants in Manipur hills and naming it as Tiger Road, German road etc. Tiger and German are nicknames of Kuki militants. The roads were made by felling trees, cutting hills without any approval of the government of Manipur. Various illegal roads have come up for transport of illegal drugs and for other illegal activities according to the Committee. The organization said the roads passed through were settled by Naga and other citizens of Manipur .
The bandh affected movement in Kangpokpi, Tamenglong, and Noney districts . Supporters of the Committee also used woods, stone to block the roads. They shouted slogans against the illegal construction of roads in the name of militants. They also opposed the construction of camps for Kuki militants under Suspension of Operation (SOO) as illegal activities related to drugs, extortion were carried out by militants.
