Strengthening of Dhussi bandh along Sutlej River likely to be completed by this weekend: DC

Jalandhar, Jul 13 (UNI) The flood protection works of Rs 79 lakh under Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) scheme on the embankments of Sutlej River to be completed this week in its three sub-divisions of the district.
Disclosing this here on Monday, the Deputy Commissioner Mr Ghanshyam Thori said that these works were underway at war-foot level with now deployment of nearly 300 MGNREGA workers to fill gunny bags with sand/soil to be utilized for strengthening embankments.
He pointed out that strengthening of river embankment at vulnerable points including the sensitive points along with river Sutlej including Lasara, Meonwal, Mau Sahib, Ismailpur, and Jania etc was the foremost priority and all these flood protection measures would be accomplished this week. Deputy Commissioner said that MGNREGA workers were deployed in Phillaur, Nakodar and Shahkot Sub-Divisions to ensure speedy completion of flood protection works. The Sub Divisional Magistrates along with draining department’s engineers were meticulously monitoring and implementing the entire operations.
