Stone pelting back in Kashmir during search operation by security forces

Srinagar, Oct 7 (UNI) Security forces burst teargas shells and resorted to lathicharge to disperse demonstrators who hit the streets after a search operation was launched against militants in south Kashmir Saturday afternoon.

Official sources said on a tip-off security forces and Special Operation Group (SOG) of Jammu and Kashmir police launched a joint search in a village in Pulwama district. When the forces were cordoning off the particular village, hundreds of people, mostly youths, hit the streets raising slogans and trying to move towards the area.

Security forces and police personnel resorted to lathicharge which had no impact on demonstrators who were pelting stones and trying to disrupt the operation. Later security forces burst teargas shells. During the clashes one house caught fire, the sources added.

However, it was not immediately clear how the house caught fire, they said.

Though clashes between demonstrators and security forces were reported almost daily from different parts of the Valley on other issues, but this was the first stone pelting clashes during security force search operation in south Kashmir after National Investigtion Agency (NIA) arrested over a dozen Separatist leaders and businessmen for terror and stone pelting funding.
