Stock market ends 2-day losing streak; Nifty closes above 25,650 mark

New Delhi, Feb 16 (UNI) The Indian stock markets today snapped their two-day losing streak and ended higher in a volatile session, with the NSE Nifty finishing above the 25,650 mark, on brisk buying in Power, PSU Banks, Realty, Private Banks, Infra, Capital Goods and Energy sectors.
At close, the BSE Sensex rose by 650.39 points or 0.79 per cent to 83,277.15 and the NSE Nifty increased by 211.65 points or 0.83 pc to 25,682.75.
The BSE 150 Mid-Cap Index rose 0.64 pc, while the BSE 250 Small-Cap Index slipped 0.16 pc. The overall market capitalisation of BSE-listed firms rose to over Rs 468 lakh crore from Rs 465 lakh crore in the previous session.
Indian rupee closed unchanged at 90.66 per US dollar.
Among the sectors, Media and Auto shed 0.5-1 pc. On the gaining side were Power, PSU Bank, Realty, Private Bank, Infra, Capital Goods, and Energy in the range of 1-2 pc.
On Nifty, top gainers were Power Grid Corporation, Coal India, HDFC Bank, Adani Enterprises and Max Healthcare.
On the losing side were Tech Mahindra, Bajaj Finance, Maruti Suzuki, Eicher Motors and Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles.
Further on BSE, over 200 stocks touched their 52-week low. These included Brainbees Solutions, Blue Jet, Ola Electric, Inox Wind, C. E. Info, Cello World, Vedant Fashions, Newgen Software, Just Dial, Cohance Life, Sonata Software, Relaxo Footwear, Firstsource Solutions, Clean Science, Tata Chemicals, KEC International, LT Technology, among others.
Shares of IT companies also extended declined pushing Nifty IT index down around 1 pc.
Tech Mahindra fell over 1 pc, Wipro and LTI Mindtree also down nearly 1 pc.
Further, Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), HCL Technologies were also trading in the red. Infosys shares also fell more than 2 pc.
Among the banking stocks, HDFC Bank emerged as the top gainer, rising up to 3 pc, Canara Bank by 1.95 pc and Axis Bank gained 1.65 pc. Bank of Baroda, Punjab National Bank and Kotak Mahindra Bank rose up to 1 pc.
