SSI murder case: Two terror suspects booked under UAPA

Kanyakumari, Jan 18 (UNI) The Tamil Nadu police have invoked provisions of the stringent Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act against two suspected Islamic extremists, who were booked for gunning down a Special Sub-Inspector of Police (SSI) at the Tamil Nadu-Kerala inter-State border check post, here on January 8.
The suspects, identified as A Abdul Shameem (32) and M Thoufique (28), were booked under Sections 13 (punishment for unlawful activities), 18 (punishment for conspiracy) and 20 (punishment for being member of a terrorist gang or organisation) of UAPA for operating against the country, police sources said here on Saturday.
The Kaliyakkavilai police in Kanyakumari district have already registered a case under Sections 302 (punishment for murder) and 506 (ii) (punishment for criminal intimidation) of the IPC and Sections 7 read with 25 (1A) and 25 (1B) of the Arms Act for illegal possession of the weapon, used for the murder against the duo.
