Sri Lankan Navy attacks Indian fishing trawlers, chases away fishermen

Rameswaram, Feb 6 (UNI) Sri Lankan Navy allegedly attacked a number of Indian fishing trawlers, destroyed fishing nets and chased away fishermen, when they were engaged in fishing activities on high seas near the controversial Katchatheevu Islet on Tuesday.

The fishermen, who returned to Rameswaram fishing jetty after the vicious attack told newsmen that the Sri Lankan Naval Personnel, who came in fast attack patrol crafts pelted stones and soda bottles on Indian fishing trawlers in the wee hours. They also destroyed fishing nets castes on the sea, incurring huge loss to the fishermen.
