New Delhi, Jul 9 (UNI) A large number of youths including sports personalities on Tuesday joined the BJP in presence of party leaders Poonam Mahajan and Anil Baluni.
Among those who joined the saffron party included Javed Ahmed from Jammu and Kashmir whose brother Shabir Ahmed Bhat was killed by terrorist, Ms Mahajan, BJP's youth wing chief said.
Among others, Olympians, relatives of various workers killed in violence in Kerala also joined the BJP.
From Kerala, actor Nithin Jake Joseph also joined the saffron party. Arjun Awardee coach in Judo Yashpal Solanki also joined BJP, it was announced.
Meanwhile, in a tweet, Prime Minister Narendra Modi asked people to join the party and make BJP's Sangathan Parba (Organisational Fest) a success.
"The BJP will be enriched by your active contribution to the Party! Come, be a part of the BJP and contribute to a strong as well as developed India," Prime Minister tweeted.
Welcoming those who joined the saffron party at party headquarters on Tuesday, Ms Mahajan, BJP's youth wing chief, said "it has been taken as a challenge by party's Yuva Morcha that out of new membership, we will have at least 60 per cent from among the younger generation".
"The response so far has been very positive," she said and mentioned that BJP youth wing launched a formal 'campaign drive' from the capital's prestigious JNU campus on Monday.
At least 500 students joined BJP on Monday, she said.
"We will reach out to all youths in urban areas, rural areas and those who want to associate themselves with the 'Aspirational India' campaign of Prime Minister Narendra Modi," Ms Mahajan said.
She also maintained that in Trinamool-ruled West Bengal, a large number of people including from the families of those killed during 'political violence' want to join the BJP.
