Sports Minister Rathore's remarks provoke protest from Cong, Left MPs

New Delhi, July 19 (UNI) Pandemonium and slogan shouting prevailed in Lok Sabha on Thursday for over 15 minutes after Congress member Gaurav Gogoi and others, including from the Left, took exceptions to certain remarks from Sports Minister Rajyavardhan Rathore.
Answering a supplementary question from Mr Gogoi, the Minister said, he has lot of other important works and thus need not comment on every remarks and statements made in the media or social media.
This provoked angry protest from Mr Gogoi and his colleagues including Jyotiraditya Scinda, K C Venugopal, Sushmita Dev and also from CPI-M members like Mohammad Salim and Jitendra Chaudhury.
They demanded that the Minister should either withdraw his words or tender an apology. As the Minister remained unrelenting, the opposition members from Left parties and Congress rushed to the Well of the House.
Mr Gogoi and Ms Sushmita Dev, among others, started raising slogans like 'Shame Shame' and 'Maafi mango (Tender apology)'. At one point, members from the ruling BJP also started raising slogans against the Opposition members.
Some of them were seen protesting the manner Minister of State for Civil Aviation Jayant Sinha was not allowed to reply to the supplementary questions pertaining to his ministry.
Among others, Union Ministers like R K Singh, Giriraj Singh, Anupriya Patel and Kiren Rijiju were seen up on their feet and registering their protest against the conduct of opposition members.
In his reply to various supplementary queries, including from BJP MP Anurag Thakur, the Sports Minister said in last four years, the NDA government has taken number of steps to prepare Indian contingents for the Olympics of 2020 in Tokyo and 2014 in Paris respectively.
