Speeding container mows down pilgrims on Pune highway; woman killed, several injured

Pune, Nov 11 (UNI) A 45-year-old woman died on the spot while 10 others were seriously injured after a speeding, heavily loaded container truck ploughed into a group of pilgrims walking along the Old Mumbai–Pune Highway in the Kamshet area of Pune today morning.
Police said that accident occurred in early hours of Tuesday when a group of devotees embarked on a foot pilgrimage from Basvi village in the Uran administrative division of Navi Mumbai. The pilgrims, who had halted overnight at the Bhairavnath Temple in Kamshet, resumed their religious journey at dawn. As the procession advanced along the highway shoulder, a container truck approaching from behind at high speed rammed into the group without warning.
The deceased woman was identified as Kammanjola Tandel.
