SP grabs 60 district panchayat chairman posts, BJP loses in PM's constituency, Cong retains Rae Bareli

Lucknow, Jan 7(UNI) Despite infighting, ruling Samajwadi Party today grabbed 60 out of the total 74 district panchayat chairman posts with BJP losing in Varanasi, the parliamentary constituency of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The SP had won 38 seats unopposed. The ruling party had to face debacle in some seats due to revolt by the party legislators.
According to sources, the elections were held without any political affiliation but party supported candidates were fielded. In 62 places SP supported candidates have won, BJP in seven places, Congress in one and remaining six places, the rebel of the SP won the elections.
