South Africa's tours of West Indies, SL postponed indefinitely

South Africa's tours of West Indies, SL postponed indefinitely

Cape Town, Aug 1 (UNI) South Africa's tour of the West Indies and Sri Lanka have been postponed indefinitely, CSA Director of Cricket Graeme Smith confirmed on Saturday.

South Africa were scheduled to play two Tests and five T20Is in Caribbean, while three ODIs and three T20Is were planned in Sri Lanka.

Chief Executive of West Indies Cricket Johnny Grave had recently said that they were hopeful of hosting South Africa in September for either five T20Is or two Tests, but Smith has now made it clear that will not happen.

Smith said in a press conference on Saturday that their players "will be needed" at the IPL, which ended the possibilities of the bilateral series happening soon in future.

"West Indies has been postponed indefinitely. We are struggling to find a time with the IPL being fitted in," Cricinfo quoted Smith as saying.

"It looks like our players are going to be needed from the beginning of September, government-permitting, and travel permitting. Sri Lanka also [postponed], ' he added.

This year's IPL has been moved to the UAE and has been slated to be played from September 19 to November 8.

Smith also hoped that something like normal service might resume in the coming months.

'I would say from November onwards, if all goes well, it will be a really busy period for South African cricket, probably playing in times that we haven't played before and trying to cram in a lot of missed tours,' he said.
