Sophie Turner unveiled as Lara Croft in ‘Tomb Raider’ reboot series

New Delhi, Jan 16 (UNI) The first look at Hollywood star Sophie Turner as iconic video game heroine Lara Croft has been unveiled, offering fans an exciting preview of her take on the legendary adventurer in the upcoming Tomb Raider reboot series.
Prime Video shared a wardrobe test image of Turner in character, showing the Game of Thrones alum action-ready in Lara Croft’s signature shorts, sunglasses, and dual pistols. The image captures her exuding confidence, grit, and the fearless determination synonymous with the globe-trotting archaeologist.
Production on the ‘Tomb Raider’ series is currently underway, according to Variety. Alongside Turner, the cast includes Sigourney Weaver, Jason Isaacs, Martin Bobb-Semple, Jack Bannon, John Heffernan, Bill Paterson, Paterson Joseph, Sasha Luss, Juliette Motamed, Celia Imrie, and August Wittgenstein.
Based on the iconic video game franchise, the series will follow ‘Lara Croft’s’ adventurous exploits as an archaeologist. The character has previously been brought to life on the big screen by Angelina Jolie and Alicia Vikander.
Speaking about stepping into the role, Turner said, “I’ve been a long-time fan of ‘Tomb Raider’ and the character of Lara. She has always felt, for me, very emboldened in a male-dominated world. She’s a fierce female role model!”
The first ‘Tomb Raider’ video game debuted in 1996, cementing ‘Lara Croft’ as a cultural and female action icon. The franchise has since expanded into multiple games and films.
The upcoming series is a collaboration between Crystal Dynamics and Amazon MGM Studios. Created and written by Phoebe Waller-Bridge, the show is directed by Jonathan Van Tulleken.
Executive producers include Amazon MGM Studios, Crystal Dynamics, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Jenny Robins for Wells Street Films, Dmitri M. Johnson, Michael Lawrence Goldberg, Timothy I. Stevenson, Dallas Dickinson for Story Kitchen, Michael Scheel, and Legendary Television. No release date for the series has been announced yet.
