Sonia writes to Rae Bareli administration, offers her MPLADS funds to deal with coronavirus crisis

New Delhi, Mar 27 (UNI) Congress interim president Sonia Gandhi on Friday wrote to the District Magistrate in Rae Bareli to offer her MPLAD funds for fighting corona virus in the constituency.
In a letter to the Rae Bareli District Magistrate, Ms Gandhi authorised the DM to draw as much funds as required in dealing with the situation and provide sanitisers, masks and medicines to the people of her constituency.
"I appeal to the district administration to distribute masks, sanitisers and soaps to the people of Rae Bareli. I appeal that extra care be given to the daily wagers and the elderly. It should be ensured that no homeless goes hungry" Ms Gandhi said.
She said that she is committed to do all that is required as the MP from Rae Bareli to keep the people safe and healthy.
She wrote to the DM that whatever amount was required to protect people of the constituency from coronavirus could be used from her MPLADs fund.
Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra also wrote a letter to UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, reaffirming her party's support to the government in fighting the pandemic.
In her letter to the UP CM, Ms Vadra gave suggestions to deal with the impact of the 21-day lockdown and said that Congress workers are ready to volunteer for relief work in the state if required.
'Our party has decided that the Congress is ready to help the government in every way it could and I have already directed party workers to take precautions due to the coronavirus spread and to adopt ways to stop it,' she wrote.
Ms Vadra said that the government should provide relief to the labourers, vendors, destitute, widows and others who have been deeply affected by the lockdown.
She said the poor and labourers are worst affected by the lockdown in the state.
Ms Vadra referred to migrant workers stuck midway while trying to reach their home, requesting the state government to make arrangements to provide transport as many are forced to walk hundreds of kilometres.
Among the suggestions given by her to the CM were providing relief measures for specially-abled persons and proper safety equipment for medical staff, doctors and sanitation workers involved in treatment of coronavirus-infected patients in the state. Gandhi also demanded that salaries of these workers be released in advance.
She requested the state government to ensure that labourers who are coming to Uttar Pradesh as reverse migration should be given facilities to reach their homes safely.
The Congress leader also urged the UP government to start a helpline for displaced labourers so that they can contact the officials concerned.
She also raised the issue of farmers who are already facing the brunt of untimely rain and hailstorms.
She asked the Chief Minister to provide food grains to slums in urban areas besides ensuring adequate medical help to all.
