New Delhi, Aug 20 (UNI) Just as the 'news' spread that senior Congress leader P Chidambaram has gone 'missing' shortly after his anticipatory bail plea was rejected by Delhi High Court, BJP leader Dr Subramanian Swamy on Tuesday said Congress president Sonia Gandhi should make a public appeal asking the former Union Home and Finance Minister to surrender.
"I don't know who advised him to do that (go missing)...He has taken his party down with him. Sonia Gandhi should now make a public appeal on television asking Mr Chidambaram to surrender," Dr Swamy told a private TV news channel.
"What he has done is real damage to himself and his party," said Dr Swamy, a known bete noire of Mr Chidambaram.
Earlier in the day, Mr Chidambaram failed to get an audience from Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi for urgent hearing of his appeal in the Supreme Court against the Delhi high Court order dismissing his anticipatory bail plea.
Justice Sunil Gaur of Delhi High Court dismissed the anticipatory bail application of the former Union Minister in connection with the INX Media case.
Central Bureau of Investigation and Directorate of Enforcement Directorate have alleged that Mr Chidambaram, also a sitting Rajya Sabha member and his son, Karti, received illegal gratification from INX Media owners, Peter and Indrani Mukherjea.
It is alleged that when P Chidambaram was the Finance Minister, irregularities were allegedly committed in the Foreign Investment Promotion Board clearance to INX Media.
Teams from CBI and Enforcement Directorate reached Chidambaram's residence in the evening.
