Socio-economic conditions force women to become sex workers: Experts

Amaravati Apr 23 (UNI) Several officials and social activists had opined that socio-economic conditions force women to enter into the flesh trade and most of the victims were from the backward castes and poor.
In a workshop being held in the Secretariat on Monday on “human trafficking”, DGP Malakondaiah, Women and Chief Welfare department Principal Secretary K Sunita, and HELP Secretary Nimmaraju Rammohan expressed concern at the menaces of human trafficking and prostitution and emphasized the need of taking concrete steps to curb them.
State police Chief Malakondaiah described the human trafficking as social menace. He said steps are being taken to check the menace. The DGP said that conducting raids on the sex workers were stopped. Cases are not being registered against sex workers as they are being considered as victims.
