Snow avalanche: 2 more bodies of missing soldiers recovered in Kashmir
Srinagar, Dec 18 (UNI) Bodies of two soldiers, who went missing after a snow avalanche hit a forward Army posts in Gurez sector, were recovered on Monday, while search for another continued for the seven days.
Body of a soldier, who went missing along with another jawan after slipping from a mountain following heavy snowfall at Nowgam sector in frontier Kashmir district of Kupwara on December 11, was recovered on Sunday.
Meanwhile, search and rescue operation continued to trace one each in Nowgam sector and Gurez sector.
Army sources told UNI that bodies of two soldiers, who went missing after a snow avalanche hit Army’s Mani Post at Bagtoo in Gurez sector on December 12, were recovered today. “The soldiers have been identified as Shiv Singh and Parmang,” they said.
“Search and rescue operation continued for the remaining two missing soldiers -- one each in Gurez and Nowgam sectors in north Kashmir,” they added.
The last rites of soldier Sepoy Koushal Singh whose body was recovered yesterday was performed at Jammu today with full honour.
A porter, working with Army, slipped to death from a mountain top due to slippery conditions following fresh snowfall in border town of Gurez on December 11.
In January this year, 14 soldiers were killed in two snow avalanches which hit an Army post and patrol party in Gurez sector.
