SMS India Special Conference begins in Hyderabad

Hyderabad, Dec 16 (UNI) The three-day Strategic Management Society (SMS) India Special Conference, hosted by Indian School of Business (ISB), began here on Sunday.

The theme of the conference is “Rethinking Corporate Strategy in the Age of Paradox.”

The SMS conference saw participation of 350 strategy scholars of which 150 were international participants. As many as 160 Business Schools were represented in the conference, out of which around 100 B-Schools were from outside India.

Speaking on the occasion, Professor Rajendra Srivastava, Dean, Indian School of Business said “ISB is immensely pleased to host SMS India Special Conference here today. It is a perfect platform to revisit management strategies in the VUCA world where technologies and innovations are disrupting businesses. It is important for B-Schools to offer a perfect blend of theory and practice. Our job as faculty is to dissect the theoretical underpinnings and convert them into practical terms.
If management skills are taught theoretically without any industry exposure and insights, then students may not be able to apply them in their day-to-day operations in future. This is important in the context of technological disruptions,” he added.

Professor Rishikesha Krishnan, Programme Chair, SMS India Special Conference & Director, Indian Institute of Management Indore said, “SMS India Special Conference provided an excellent opportunity for Indian Strategy scholars to interact and exchange their ideas and research with the best Strategy scholars from around the world. And ISB provided a particularly conducive environment to make this happen”, he said.

Professor G Raghuram, Director, Indian Institute of Management Bangalore said, “I am glad that the theme of the conference is ‘Rethinking Corporate Strategy in the Age of Paradox’. I would hope that such a conference will reinforce the idea that rethinking strategy has to be a continuous process, as we constantly live in an age of paradox”.

Several workshops have been organized as part of the conference to help build capacity of doctoral students and junior faculty in management education. Special workshops on paper development, interaction with editors of prestigious journals, a research café to discuss collaborative research ideas, and a scholar practitioner workshop to bring to the classroom scholars and practitioners to look at ideas in strategy have attracted a large number of participants.
