Smriti smiles off controversies: 'kuch toh log kahenge '

New Delhi, Jul 6 (UNI) A smiling Smriti Zubin Irani today took over as the new Union Textiles Minister and thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for placing her in charge of a sector that employs the largest number of people, next only to agriculture. Laughing away reporters' queries on the reasons for her shift from the high-profile Human Resource Development ministry in yesterday's reshuffle to the relatively low key Textiles ministry, she fended them off, saying merely 'kuch toh log kahenge, logon ka kaam hai kehna (people will say anything as it is their nature to say so).' Ms Irani then patiently reminded critics that she had done substantial work during her tenure and was now about to take over a ministry that was "the second largest employer in the country." Refusing to comment further to the volley of questions by reporters demanding a reason for change in ministry, she maintained that the sector had a lot of unrealised potential in terms of skilling and employment, and could play an important role in scaling up the Prime Minister's vision of ‘Make In India’. Ms Irani was serving as the union HRD minister for the past two years. More UNI SD SW RJ 1759
