SMEFI re-elects president, gen secretary

Thane, Mar 21 (UNI) Sanjay Vadhavkar, a prominent trade union leader hailing from this district,
has been unanimously re-elected as the All India General Secretary of the Steel, Metal and Engineering Workers Federation of India (SMEFI).
The SMEFI recently concluded its' 10th Triennial Convention held at the Steel City Bokaro in the state of Jharkhand, an official statement said here on Thursday.
Attended by 700 delegates, the Convention witnessed the unanimous re-election of S D Tyagi as the SMEFI President amidst the presence of observers from affiliated unions spanning across several states.
The Convention was inaugurated by the Hind Mazdoor Sabha(HMS) General Secretary Harbhajan Singh Sidhu, who delivered speech to guide the affiliates.
The Covention oversaw the release of the SMEFI souvenir, deciding on several important decisions involving the workers' interest at national level,and the passage of varied resolutions related to trade union, health safety, climate change, protection of women against violence at workplace.
The Convention included a segment where the 'National Joint Committee on Steel and Pending Wage Negotiations and Constitutional Amendments' mulled upon the reservation for women in the SMEFI Executive Committee.
Taking the industrial pledge,"Say NO to Violence at Workplace and in Unions", the Convention adopted the Workers' Charter to be in coherence with the Central Trade Unions.

MET City of RIL garners Rs 1,913 crore from booking of plots in 2023-24

New Delhi, Apr 16 (UNI) Reliance Model Economic Township (MET City), a wholly owned subsidiary of Reliance Industries Limited, on Tuesday said the total number of plots booked during 2023-24 stood at 1079 across all segments resulting in a booking value of Rs 1,913 crore, 60 per cent jump over previous year.
