SLBC proposes Rs 2196.44 cr annual credit plan for Pondy

Puducherry, Jul 5 (UNI) The State Level Bankers Committee (SLBC) meeting held here today proposes Rs 2196.44 as annual credit plan for the union territory of Puducherry for 2016-17.
According to an official statement here, the plan outlay is 12.21 per cent higher than the plan outlay of the previous year.
SLBC chairman and Executive Director of Indian Bank R Subramania Kumar,addressing the meeting said the annual credit plan target of 2015-16 have been surpassed by banks in the state with an achievement of 102 per cent. In fact,consecutively ACP target achievement is beyond 100 per cent,he added.
Highlighting some of the important features of the ACP 2016-17, he said agriculture lending targets have been fixed at Rs.956 crores,a share of 44 per cent ,which has a major share of annual credit plan targets.Striving towards creation of sustainable agrarian income for farmers, an investment credit target of Rs. 286 crores has been fixed for banks which work out to 30 per cent of agriculture lending target,he said.An amount of Rs. 670 crores is projected for crop loan disbursals for the eyar 2016-17,he added.
The share of non-farm sector is 20 per cent with Rs.450 crores outlay and the share of service sector is 36 per cent with Rs.790 crores outlay,Mr.Kumar aid adding that necessary allocation has also been made to support the beneficiaries under various government sponsored programmes.
Puducherry chief minister V Narayansamy in his special address appreciated all the bankers for their achievements in various sectors and requested banks to encourage loan to women self-help groups for their empowerment and small ticket loans for livelihood activities.He also urged bankers to speed up the sanctioning of educational loans to avoid multiple visit of students to avail the loan.The chief minister who released the plan booklet also urged bankers to be sympathetic to farmers while dealing with them.
The chief minister said that tourism and infrastructure section in the UT will be gaining momentum in the coming days and hence urged bankers to take active participation for the development of these sectors.
Senior officials of the Puducherry administration and Bank officers from Puducherry and Chennai participated in the meeting.
